Coyotes score in regulation and OT for 3-2 win over Caps

In Glendale Friday night, Christian Fischer struck for a goal late in the final frame to tie the game 2-2 and force extra time between the Arizona Coyotes and the visiting Washington Capitals.

In keeping with the late game theme, Clayton Keller scored with less than 30 seconds left in the extra session for a 3-2 Coyotes win.

“We weren’t as nervous with the puck at the end,” Keller said. “We settled down and moved our feet, and I think when you do that it’s harder on the other team.”

Scott Wedgewood got the win on  saves.

“We just weren’t where we need to be,” Capitals head coach Barry Trotz said. “I take nothing away from the Coyotes. They played a real strong game today. They stayed with it, they were able to get a late goal and capitalize in overtime, but we had it. We’ve just got to close it out.”

Christian Dvorak also scored for Arizona.

“That’s a world-class team. They’ve got Hall of Famers over there, so for me, I liked our defensive effort. We played a really responsible game,” Coyotes head  coach Rick Tocchet said. “I thought the whole team contributed tonight.”

T.J. Oshie and Evgeny Kuznetsov scored for the Caps as they dropped to 22-12-2 on the season.

Arizona improved to 8-24-5 on the season and snapped a seven-game skid with the win.

Philipp Grubauer made 24 saves in the loss.

“I still think we did not lose one point, we gained one point. It’s always a tough place for us to play here,” Kuznetsov said taking a positive from the game.
