Coyotes rally past Wild for 3-2 win Two third period goals get the Coyotes over the hump

In Tempe, the Coyotes scored twice in the third period after falling behind 2-1 to the Minnesota Wild on Monday, to take a 3-2 win coming out of the All-Star break.

Jakob Chychrun tied the game, 2-2, with his second of the game, and Jack McBain broke the tie in the 14th minute of the third for a 3-2 lead, and win.

“It wasn’t too pretty, the puck was rolling and I was trying to get it up and going and it worked out,” McBain said.

Karel Vejmelka made 33 saves in the Coyotes win.

“These were a huge two points tonight, but they’re gone and we’d have to regroup here and get ourselves in a position where we can adjust and correct,” Wild coach Dean Evason said.

Arizona moved to 17-28-6.

“Those can be tough games after a long break like that, but I think the boys did a really good job of preparing and being ready from the start,” Chychrun said. “I thought we came out with a lot of energy and [Vejmelka] was unbelievable, keeping us in the game and giving us an opportunity to come out with points.”

Minnesota took a 1-0 lead in the second period on a strike by Kirill Kaprizov .

Arizona tied it on a power play goal from Chychrun  in the middle frame.

The Wild reclaimed the lead early in the third on a marker from Jonas Brodin.

Minnesota dropped to 27-18-4.

“We felt like we were coming, but we took a couple of more penalties and we get out of our rhythm again,” Evason said. “It would have been nice to play 5-on-5 and just be able to shut down, but we weren’t able to do that.”

Marc-Andre Fleury made 33 saves in the Wild loss.

“Five-on-5, I thought we were good,” Fleury said. “We turned the puck over and cleared the puck a lot, and were in the zone a bunch, but during that [penalty] time you can’t get momentum.”
