Coyotes rally past Ducks, 4-3

There are bad losses in any sport, and then there are the losses that the Anaheim Ducks coughed up Monday night.

Leading 3-0, and having their match with the Arizona Coyotes well in hand, the Ducks stepped back to admire what they had wrought, and promptly lost, 4-3.

Christian Dvorak scored two of the four goals for the Coyotes.

“It’s good to know we can come back from deficits like that, but we don’t need to put ourselves in these kind of situations,” Dvorak said. “We can’t always rely on coming back from three goals.”

Darcy Kuemper made 24 saves in the win.

The Ducks built the 3-0 lead off strikes from Cam Fowler, Jakob Silfverberg and Max Jones (power play).

“We’re disappointed with the result, but there’s still some stuff we can build off here,” Silfverberg said. “It’s a steppingstone. … We played with a lot of passion and energy.”

Jakob Chychrun and Derick Brassard added single markers for the Coyotes.

“This was a really big two points to claw back and take,” Chychrun said.

John Gibson made 21 saves in the loss.

“It’s amazing,” Ducks head coach Dallas Eakins said. “Usually when you’re up 3-0 and the other team ties it or ends up winning the game, it’s because you quit playing. We didn’t quit playing.”
