In Glendale Saturday, the long nightmarish nine-game losing skid for the Arizona Coyotes came to an end in a 2-1 shootout win over the New York Islanders.
Anthony Duclair and Radim Vrbata scored in the skills competition to ensure the win.
“We need that win. We needed it a week ago, or two weeks ago,” Vrbata said. “But to go on this break without a win … now everyone can feel a little better and take a few

days to regroup.”
Louis Domingue made 27 saves including six in a busy overtime session to get the win.
“I’m not going to lie; I needed to prove something to everybody here in the room including myself,” Domingue said. “It feels really good. I found a way and our group played super well in front of me.”
The Isles, who dropped to 15-15-8 got a goal from Alan Quine
Thomas Greiss made 24 saves in the loss.
“That was probably the best overtime we have played all year and we still can’t win a game,” Islanders coach Jack Capuano said. “We had a stretch where (the offense) was going and now we are back to two goals in the last two games.”
The Islanders have two straight on the road after their five-day break.
“We came in waves (offensively) in both games,” Islanders f Andrew Ladd said. “You have to find a way to win. It’s tough to swallow when you need the points and you just can’t find a way to come up with it.”
The Coyotes tied the game in the third on a goal from Brendan Perlini.
“I’d like to say I was aiming for the five-hole, but it was a lucky tip,” said Perlini, who has two goals in his past four games. “A lot of my soccer buddies will watch that one and be proud.”

The Coyotes remain a MASH unit with seven players missing from the lineup due to injury including a number of wingers.
“If there had been a right winger walking by the arena, he would have been in the lineup today,” Vrbata said.
