If you are fighting for a playoff spot, you might want to avoid looking past the Arizona Coyotes.
In Tempe on Thursday night, the Coyotes scored a 3-2 win over the Vancouver Canucks to extend their point streak to seven games.
They are 5-0-2 in the streak.
Ivan Prosvetov made 29 saves in the Arizona win.
The Coyotes moved to 26-32-11.
The Canucks took a 1-0 lead in the first period on a strike by Andrei Kuzmenko .
Travis Boyd scored the first of his double on the night with 30 seconds left in the first to tie the game, 1-1.
“It’s nice to see them go in,” Boyd said. “It starts to build some confidence and when you start playing with confidence, all of a sudden you keep trying those things and you get some bounces. It’s been a fun stretch for me, a fun stretch for the team.”
Boyd scored at 12:44 of the middle frame to give the Coyotes a 2-1 lead.
“We’ve proven to ourselves that, if we play the right way, we can beat any given team on any given night,” Boyd said.
Vancouver dropped to 29-33-5, and had their five-game win streak snapped.
“We were sleepy tonight. It wasn’t a good effort,” Vancouver coach Rick Tocchet said. “I didn’t like our game at all. … It’s hard to describe this game because I didn’t feel like we were really into it.”
Lawson Crouse scored in the third frame for the Coyotes to push the lead to 3-1.
“We’re playing determined hockey right now and having lots of fun with it, and everyone’s contributing,” Crouse said. “Our defense did a great job, the [penalty kill], the power play. It was just an overall great team win.”
Elias Pettersson scored 11:31 in the third for the Canucks to trim the lead to 3-2.
“We’re playing determined hockey right now and having lots of fun with it, and everyone’s contributing,” Crouse said. “Our defense did a great job, the [penalty kill], the power play. It was just an overall great team win.”
Thatcher Demko made 24 saves in the Canucks loss.
Vancouver was scoreless in five power play chances.
“Yeah, the power play wasn’t good. We had those three power plays [in the first], and we got that [even-strength] goal, and maybe we thought it was going to be easy,” Tocchet said. “They’re a hard-working team, they outworked us plain and simple, and we were 0-for-5 on the power play.”
