Coyotes down Ducks, 5-4, in OT

The Arizona Coyotes prowled the Anaheim ice Saturday night and skated off with a 5-4 win in overtime over the Ducks.

The Coyotes rallied from two-goal deficits of 2-0, 3-1 and 4-2 before finally getting over the hump in the extra session.

Nick Schmaltz scored with just 33 seconds elapsed in the extra session for thew winner.

“It was just a great team effort,” Schmaltz said. “Everyone chipped in. All four lines made some plays that led to victory.”

Adin Hill made 37 saves to get the win for Arizona.

The Coyotes improved to 17-19-2.

Oliver Ekman-Larsson, Nick Cousins, Jakob Chychrun and Christian Fischer scored in regulation for Arizona.

“It was eventful, for sure,” Fischer said. “Both teams had their looks, and I thought we played well out there. Kind of shut down when they had some chances and kept things simple when we needed to.”

The Ducks dropped to 19-15-6.

Ondrej Kase struck for two goals for Anaheim.

Adam Henrique and Daniel Sprong had single markers for the Ducks.

“Mistakes ended up in our net,” Henrique said. “You want to play with the lead. That’s where you need to tighten up defensively and make sure you don’t give up anything for free.”

John Gibson made 25 saves in the loss.

“We were too loose defensively. We had three two-goal leads, and you should be able to finish it out,” Ducks head coach Randy Carlyle offered after the game.
