Coyotes double-up Canes, 4-2

In Raleigh Friday night, the veteran Shane Doan scored once and had three points in a 4-2 win over the Hurricanes.

“Everybody wants to contribute offensively and I haven’t done a very good job for the most part this whole year,” Doan said. “When you’re able to, it always feels better. I

wish I had done it more often.”

Jordan Martinook scored the game-winning goal midway through the third period.

“Typical Doan, going in hard on the forecheck, somehow it bounces off him and gets on his stick,” Martinook said. “Then he throws it out in front, the seas parted and I got one in.”

Louis Domingue made 32 saves to get the win as the Coyotes improved to 23-34-7.

“I think we only had three or four chances in the first period, and a couple of them were [Grade] A chances, and we capitalized on them. It got us going and we got our feet under us. Still a little sloppy, but Louie [Domingue] made some saves and we found a way to win,” Arizona head coach Dave Tippett said after the win.

Christian Dvorak and Alex Goligoski gave the Coyotes a 2-0 lead before the Canes rallied to tie the game.

Lee Stempniak cut the lead in half and Jordan Staal tied the game 2-2 early in the second period.

“We chased the game,” Hurricanes coach Bill Peters said. “We never scored early on some good chances. We never led.”

Cam Ward made 18 saves in taking the loss.

“We’re starting games off better. We just have to push that all the way through to the end. We have a lot of games every other day now so we just have to bring it every night and try to get the two points,” Carolina’s Jaccob Slavin said.
