Couture lefts Sharks over Red Wings in OT

In San Jose, Logan Couture struck for the game-winner with 60 seconds gone in extra time on Tuesday, to give the Sharks a 3-2 win over the Detroit Red Wings.

“‘Burnzie’ (Brentt Burns) made a nice play to me, I saw the [defense] kind of flat-footed,” Couture said. “I just tried to take it to the net.”

The Sharks improved to 6-0 in extra time time this season.

“Those are huge because those are the points you’re looking at at the end of the season,” Sharks head coach Bob Boughner said. “It’s nice to see us in these close games, comfortable in these close games and finding ways to win.”

Adin Hill made 17 saves in the Sharks win.

“I think that was one of our games with a complete 60 minutes and we didn’t let anything frustrate us,” Boughner said. “We just kept coming tonight.”

Detroit got goals from Tyler Bertuzzi and Nick Leddy.

“They tilted it on us,” Red Wings head coach Jeff Blashill said. “We didn’t seem to be very strong on the puck. We made a lot of individual errors we didn’t need to make and it kind of ignited their transition game.”

San Jose improved to 20-16-1.

Timo Meier and Jeffrey Viel were the strikers for San Jose in regulation.

Burns assisted on all three San Jose goals.

The Red Wings dropped to 16-16-5.

Alex Nedeljkovic made 37 saves in the Red Wings loss.

“He was great for us tonight,” Leddy said. “All year he’s been giving us games. It’s too bad we couldn’t get that extra point.”
