Copp said he believes Detroit can be successful soon.
“With Winnipeg, it’s the same thing as the Rangers this year. It seems like a rebuilding team and the next year you’re in the conference finals,” Copp said on TSN. “That’s exactly what happened in Winnipeg and exactly what happened in New York this year. I don’t think this group is far off from that. Whether we’re making the conference finals next year or not I don’t know. But I really like where this group is trending. This isn’t a one- or two-year decision, it’s a five-year decision. I really like where this team is headed and I want to be part of it going forward.”
Selected by Winnipeg in the fourth round (No. 104) of the 2013 NHL Draft, Copp has 202 points (82 goals, 120 assists) in 483 regular-season games for the Rangers and Jets and 26 points (nine goals, 17 assists) in 54 playoff games.
