Cooley stops 30 in win over Madison

MADISON, WI  – Devin Cooley turned in a 30 save performance, while Tyler Irvine led all scorers with one goal and one assist to lift the Muskegon Lumberjacks over the Madison Capitols 4-1. The Capitols opened the scoring after a shot was redirected by Alexandre Payusov, and found its way past Devin Cooley, to give Madison a 1-0 lead 4:14 into the first period. The Lumberjacks created scoring chances throughout the first period, but could not get the puck past Capitols goaltender Ryan Edquist, and went into the first intermission trailing Madison 1-0.

Derek Daschke tied the game at one after a wrist shot from the blue line for his second goal of the season. Tyler Irvine and Charlie Gerard collected the assists on the goal 7:05 into the second period. Rem Pitlick gave Muskegon their first lead of the evening after netting his 46th goal of the season. Pitlick received a pass from Matej Paulovic in the slot and fired home his third goal in as many games, and the Lumberjacks took a 2-1 lead into the second intermission.

7:18 into the third period, Jake Coleman added an insurance goal to give the Lumberjacks to a 3-1 lead. With the Capitols net empty, Irvine registered his second point of the game and his seventh goal of the season, to give the Lumberjacks a 4-1 victory over the Capitols.
