Condors victory over Wranglers

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – The Bakersfield Condors (5-7-1-1, 12pts) sent the largest Field Trip Day crowd in team history home – or back to school – happy as they dropped the Las Vegas Wranglers (3-6-0-2, 8pts) 2-1 Thursday afternoon at Rabobank Arena.

The two clubs skated to a scoreless tie in the opening period. Both teams managed nine shots on goal, with Condors Goalie Scott Greenham and Vegas Goalie Joe Fallon keeping it 0-0.

The middle stanza appeared to be headed to a similar outcome, but the Condors tallied late to take the lead. Defenseman Erik Burgdoerfer swept in a rebound from his knees with just 14 second left in the frame to make it 1-0. Bakersfield led in shots 9-5 in the period, which also featured a tilt between Condors Trevor Hendrikx and Wranglers Adam Huxley.

Vegas threw everything they could at Greenham in the third, and finally found the back of the net. Josh Lunden scored on a rebound to tie it up 1-1 at 13:18. The Condors netminder had to make 15 saves in the third frame to keep it tied heading into overtime.

Neither team scored in overtime, while the Condors were successful on all three shooters in the shootout. Greenham stopped three of four Wranglers attempts en route to improving to 3-0 in shootouts.
