Comeback Falls Short as Attack Lose Fourth Straight

Servac Petrovsky completed his third hat-trick of the season with just 49 seconds left in the game to pull the Owen Sound Attack to within a goal, but the visiting Sue Sault Marie GreyHounds held off a strong push to claim a 4-3 win Sunday afternoon.

Though they came out of the gate playing aggressive and in the GreyHounds faces, the Attack found themselves in some penalty trouble that eventually cost them. It was during the Attack’s second penalty kill, when the visitors were able to break open the scoring, and needed just 51 seconds of game play after to make it a 2-0 game. Petrovsky netted his first of the afternoon late in period one on an Owen Sound power play, as he blasted home a one-time off a nice feed from Cedrick Guindon.

An unsettling theme seems to be rising with Owen Sound, and that is surrendering multiple goals in short spans. It took the GreyHounds just 3:26 into period two to stretch there lead to 4-1, with a pair of goals coming just 30 seconds apart. Playing their third game in three days, the steam in the Attack’s boat seemed to have run dry after the fourth Hounds goal, as they struggled to create chances.

In the Attack net both Nick Chenard and Corbin Votary saw time, as Chenard got the call to start, but it was Votary coming in after the Hounds fourth goal to finish the game.

The second intermission seemed to have allowed the Attack to reset, as they came out and were hungry for a comeback. That comeback though looked bleak, as it was well after the halfway point when Petrovsky recorded his second of the game, banging home a loose puck after Hounds goalie Samuel Ivanov had an adventure around the net. The goal seemed to have pumped life into the Attack, as they pressed harder to cut the deficit to just a single goal, and were eventually rewarded with under a minute to go. After a quick neutral zone transition by Guindon, the puck eventually found Colby Barlow who had a small ice 2-on-1 with Petrovsky. Though more than capable of finding the back of the net, the Attack captain deferred to the hot hand, as Petrovsky completed the hat-trick.

Owen Sound had looks as time ticked down but were stymied by Ivanov and the Hounds, dropping their fourth straight game.

The Attack have just two more games remaining before the Christmas break, as they travel to London Friday night to face-off with the Knights, before wrapping up Saturday night at home against the Windsor Spitfires in the teams annual IG Wealth Management Charity Food Drive, in support of the Salvation Army. Tickets for the Saturday game can be purchased at the MacVicor and McComb Sutton Realty Attack Box Office by calling 519-371-7452 or going online at tickets.attackhockey.com.
