Columbus inch closer to wild card

In Vancouver, the visiting Columbus Blue Jackets snapped a three-game skid that had them fall from a playoff position, with a 5-0 win over the Canucks.

Sergei Bobrovsky made 21 saves to get the shutout, his seventh of the season.

“Must win. We needed a win tonight,” said forward Josh Anderson, who had two goals and one assist. “You look at the standings and every team is winning, not really helping us out too much, so yeah, must win.”

The Blue Jackets moved to within two points of the Montreal Canadiens who hold the second wild card spot in the Eastern Conference.

“I felt pretty good. I felt comfortable to play and I thought guys helped me a lot out there,” Bobrovsky said. “It’s a good team win.”

Anderson had two strikes for Columbus.

“We knew the first goal was going to be really important,” Anderson said. “After we got that first one, we had a little more jump in our game. We didn’t have any passengers tonight. Everyone was on board.”

Pierre-Luc Dubois, Oliver Bjorkstrand, and Ryan Dzingel also scored for the Blue Jackets.

“It feels good to score, don’t get me wrong, but if you look at the past couple games I couldn’t buy a point so it’s a little frustrating,” Dubois said. “I’d look at the scoring chance sheet after the past five or six games and I was second or third on the team and you’re like, ‘How did I not get a point out of all this?’ It feels good. A big game, a big win.”

Thatcher Demko made 28 saves in the loss.

“That wasn’t our strongest game at all,” Bo Horvat said. “Give them credit; they played a really good game. We knew they were going to come hard. Our first (period) was OK, but they just kept coming and coming. We couldn’t get any traction.”
