Columbus Blue Jackets Pick Liam Foudy

If the Jackets felt the need for speed, they got it in London Knights center Liam Foudy. The Scarborough, Ontario native stands 6’ 180lbs. and is the son of former CFL defensive back Sean Foudy and Olympic Silver Medal Sprinter France Gareau. Speed is in the genes of this young player.

“I am a fast offensive centerman. I use my speed to the best of my abilities.” Said Foudy.

Foudy models his game after his childhood idol Pavel Datsyuk and it shows. With good hands and natural quickness to skate around the defense like a snake, Foudy possesses the potential to be an offensive weapon for the Jackets. In the 2016-2017 season Foudy tallied 9 goals, 6 assists, and 15 points in 58 games for London. This past season his stats skyrocketed to 24 goals, 16 assists, 40 points in 65 games played. NHL Central Scouting reports;

“Strong skater with good speed and quickness to be on top of plays and getting to where he needs to be – good hockey sense to make effective choices / decisions moving the puck – has the puck skills to execute passing plays and get the shot – very good game getting to the net to generate or be open on play for chances – consistent work ethic to play a two way game and he’s effective on the forecheck to get to loose pucks first – a young Knights player who has shown glimpses of having the ingredients of an NHL prospect.”

A two-way player, effective forechecker, and a goal scorer is what the Columbus Blue Jackets need. Foudy has proven himself as an offensive weapon in the OHL. At this point the Jackets are shopping playmaking left wing Artemi Panarin. While Panarin’s future in Columbus is unknown, the Jackets are in a dire need for an effective playmaker and natural goal scorer to fill that gap. Foudy is not NHL ready and needs to develop. The London Knights have a great reputation in getting players NHL ready. Only time will tell whether Foudy will develop into a much needed offensive weapon.
