Colorado scores four unanswered to defeat Rush 4-2

LOVELAND, Colo. – Colorado stormed back from a 2-0 third period deficit by scoring four unanswered goals to defeat the Rapid City Rush 4-2 at the Budweiser Events Center on Friday. Eagles forwards Shawn St-Amant and Matt Garbowsky each collected a goal and two assists in the winning effort.

After a scoreless first period, the Rush struck first at the 11:33 mark of the second period when forward Anthony Collins fired a shot from between the circles to beat Eagles goaltender Nathan Lieuwen and give the Rush the 1-0 edge.

Rapid City’s lead would grow to 2-0 in the third period, as forward Brett Perlini unleashed a wrister from the left circle with just 3:03 gone in the final frame of regulation.

Colorado would finally strike back 3:57 later when St-Amant notched his first professional goal with a shot from the slot to cut Rapid City’s lead to 2-1. Only 2:24 later the Eagles would tie the contest, as Garbowsky drove the net from the right wing and beat Rush goalie Austin Lotz top-shelf to even the game at 2-2.

Eagles defenseman Jake Marto would collect his first goal of the season when he fielded a pass from behind the net and drove it home from the slot to give the Eagles the 3-2 lead at the 13:07 mark of the third period.

The Rush would pull Lotz in favor of the extra attacker, but Eagles forward Ryan Harrison would capitalize by firing the puck into the empty net to seal the Eagles 4-2 victory.

Nathan Lieuwen posted his second straight win in net, stopping 20 of the 22 shots he faced in the contest.

Colorado opens up a five-game road trip as the Eagles travel to face the Rapid City Rush on Saturday, November 12th at 7:05pm MT.
