STOCKTON, Callif. – The Colorado Avalanche managed a goal early in the overtime period and evened the series at 3-3, and forced a game 7 in San Jose for a must win, with a final score of 4-3.
There were no goals in the first period, as Colorado outshot the Sharks 11-5 at Pepsi Center.
Only four minutes into the second period. Tyson Jost finished the tic-tac-toe shot that beat a committed Martin Jones in the net to put the Avalanche on the board first.
Timo Meier took a shot on goal from the crease, but Philipp Grubauer made the save, only to allow the rebound to escape in front of the net, and then be wristed into the net by Marc-Edouard Vlasic to even the score at 1-1. There was a brief pause, while officials reviewed the call, as there was some concern that Meier may have had interference on the goaltender prior to the shot, but the goal stood.
Late in the period, Colorado resumed the lead with a huge slapshot from the blue line, down the slot, through traffic off the stick of J.T. Compher.
An Erik Karlsson pass across the ice to Brent Burns for the equalizer from the circle, with only 10 seconds remaining in the period.
The Avalanche resumed the lead, only four minutes into the third period, with a fabulous goal by J.T. Compher, with a hesitation that pulled Jones off balance.
Couture took the puck around behind the net, and passed it to Vlasic who was just off the circle and evened the score between the teams at 3-3. As the clock ran down, the teams remained tied and headed into the overtime period.
At the 17:28 mark, Gabriel Landeskog dumped the puck in, then went after it, and found a way to put it past Jones in the net, for the overtime win that keeps the Avalanche in the series. The Avalanche win with a final score of 4-3 and force the game 7 back in San Jose.
