SAN JOSE, Calif. – The Colorado Avalanche were able to tie up the series, in game two with a final score of 4-3.
Evander Kane scored the first goal of the game, at 7:57 into the first period, on a rebound from the front of the net.
In the second period, Gabriel Landeskog evened the score with his shot at 8:21 on a long shot through traffic. Colorado took the lead when Tyson Barrie was positioned in just the right places to get a rebound puck and sent it to the back of the net at 16:31.
In the third period, Matt Nietto scored at 10:10 to extend Colorado’s lead. But it wouldn’t be long, when Brent Burns scored the Sharks second goal at 15:26, beating Philipp Grubauer in the net.
With just over a minute remaining, the Sharks pulled Jones for the extra skater, Matt Calvert was skating towards the Sharks zone with the puck, when Burns provided a powerful hip check, causing the puck to skate ahead toward Nathan MacKinnon, who eventually took the puck down and buried it in the empty net to lengthen the point spread 4-2.
An Avalanche penalty, with 17 seconds remaining and Jones pulled for the empty net, with only 10 seconds remaining, Burns took a shoot from the circle that beat Grubauer into the net to bring the Sharks within one. But in the last 10 seconds, the Sharks were not able to score, leaving the Avalanche with the game win with a final score of 4-3.
The two teams will go to Colorado for games three and four, beginning Tuesday night.
