ESTERO, Fla. – After the amazing come-back-from-the-dead efforts to earn the tie and a chance at overtime magic in Game four, only to lose in the extra period, the Colorado Eagles were shutout in Game five and were never a legitimate challenge to the Florida Everblades.
Period one was a nicely played 20-minutes with no penalties and shots on goal at seven for the Eagles and 10 for Florida. Yet the Everblades were able to score two goals with those three extra shots.
Steven McCauley finished off a three-on-one rush with 8:19 left in the period to start the scoring for the home team. Assisting on the play was Michael Kirkpatrick, who dished a cross-crease pass to McCauley for the 1-0 score.
At the 14:56 mark in of the opening frame Justin Kea batted at a puck Eagles goalie Joe Cannata thought he had contained and it popped into the net for the 2-0 score heading into the second period.
The middle frame produced one minor penalty and no goals for Colorado and three minor penalties and one power-play goal for the Everblades.
With the Eagle’s Ryan Harrison in the box for hooking, Michael Kirkpatrick, assisted by Matt Mackenzie and David Dziurzynski, put a shot past Cannata from the top of the right circle for the 3 -0 score after forty minutes of play.
In the final period Florida scored two more goals and miraculously the home team was penalty-free while Colorado scored no goals while accruing four minor penalties, a roughing misconduct, and an unsportsmanlike misconduct.
At 12:17 of the third period, Steven Lorentz wristed a shot past Cannata for a 4-0 lead followed slightly over three minutes later by Zack Kamrass’ shot from above the right circle for the final 5-0 tally.
The Colorado Eagles, down three games to two, will try to extend the series when they host game six at the Budweiser Events Center in Loveland, Co. on Wednesday, June 6 at 7:05 P.M. MT
