The Premier Sports sponsored Glasgow Clan took the long trip to Wales and came home empty handed after a harsh 5-1 loss in a hostile meeting with the Cardiff Devils.
Jimmy Oligny got the Devils off to a strong start with a quick break off the opening faceoff and a shot from the left dot which sailed just over Sami Aittokallio’s head in a close call 10 seconds into the game.
Cole Sanford then made a break through the Clan’s defence and played a quick pass to Joey Martin at the backdoor who knocked a shot high into the Glasgow net.
Kohen Olischefski then doubled Cardiff’s lead after a pass from behind the net by Cedric Lacroix allowed the Canadian to rifle a first time shot into the net on the powerplay.
Ryan Barrow then hit Cade Neilson into the boards with a check from behind which was missed by officials in open play but was reviewed for a potential major penalty and dismissed despite a lengthy watch of the replay by the two referees.
Brett Perlini then fizzed a third goal past Aittokallio early in the second period which was followed up by Lucas Brine entering the game in place of the Finnish netminder.
After being allowed to remain in the game by the official’s review in the first, Barrow put himself on the scoresheet with a neat first time shot into the top corner to put the Devils ahead by four.
Steven Seigo opened the Clan’s account before the end of the middle frame with a shot from a sharp angle which snuck past Ben Bowns to reduce the deficit to three.
Felix Pare then laid a retribution hit on Barrow with seconds left in the period which ensued a fight between the French Canadian and Oligny and a video review for a potential major penalty on Pare seeping into the second intermission.
Before the start of the third period, Pare was assessed a five minute major for checking to the head along with a game ejection which was later changed on the game sheet to charging.
Barrow then bagged his second and the Devils’ fifth goal of the game in the third period with a quick release from close range as the Clan’s night continued to get worse.
Riley Brandt and Richard Jarusek got into the game’s third fight with less than 10 seconds left in regulation and tensions then spilled over into the team benches, setting up an interesting repeat fixture next Friday at Braehead.
