It was a much-improved display from the Glasgow Clan, but it wasn’t to be as Nottingham Panthers took away the Elite League points in a 3-0 win for them at Braehead Arena.
Clan came out for the game determined to draw a line under Friday’s heavy loss at the hands of Sheffield Steelers and from the off, looked more drilled and focussed in the early stages.
A Chris McKay chance needed a touch from Panthers goalie Jason Grande, who was helped out by his defence before the Clan could get hold of the loose puck.
Landon Bow, reinstated in the home net, saved well to deny Mitch Fossier’s redirected effort which came initially from Tim Doherty’s chance.
Some good movement around the Nottingham zone saw Matt Berry tee up Joseph Hazeldine, but Grande was equal to it.
A clearance opened things up for the Clan as Robert Lachowicz steamed his way through the centre, with Nottingham’s netminder getting something on that as well as Deven Sideroff’s follow-up.
Cade Neilson had a similar chance minutes later shorthanded, with Grande coolly dealing with it.
It was the visitors who took the lead with 67 seconds left of the first as Sam Herr managed to poke into the Clan net.
Like the previous meetings, this game was a tight one with both goalies looking good whenever they were called upon.
Grande again came up good when Liam Finlay moved quickly to negate an icing to cut back to Cole Ully, who was denied.
Then Darien Kielb was denied on a wraparound chance, with the Panthers goalie again coming up big to deny Berry on the follow up.
Bow prevented a big chance in the third as Herr broke through shorthanded as the Panthers looked to double their advantage.
Then Quinn Wichers hit the post before Rylan Schwartz’s route to goal was denied by Tim Spencer’s defensive stick.
The game was still locked at just the one goal in favour of Nottingham by the midway point of the third period and went close on two occasions as Didrik Henbrant then Hugo Roy both hit the post and the bar respectively.
The visitors were starting to turn up the heat as Matt Alfaro’s shot from the inside left saw Bow grab it and hold it to his chest.
Grande produced another big save as Mitchell Heard’s diagonal shot was saved by the leg pad, but Berry couldn’t capitalise on the rebound.
The visitors got their second goal inside the final five minutes as Doherty tucked away the rebound after Bow had dealt with Alfaro‘s chance before getting it back and stroking to his team-mate to apply the finish.
Fossier scored with an empty netter with a couple of minutes to go to put a sheen on the scoreline as Clan pulled Bow in an attempt to salvage something from the game.
