Clan into fifth with home win

Glasgow Clan, sponsored by Aspray Glasgow West, ended the year on a high as they claimed both points against Fife Flyers at the final home game of 2023.

Gary Haden got the crowd rocking almost instantly when he fired a backhand shot from the slot that slid under Fife netminder Andrew Little just 66 seconds in.

Matt Barry nearly made it two straight after when he dangled through the Flyers zone before seeing his shot sail just wide of the net.

Cody Sol attempted to repeat his goal in Belfast as he fired a slapshot from the blue line but it was met by Little’s blocker.

Jonas Emmerdahl and Troy LaJeunesse tested home netminder Jake Kielly with a series of shots later in the period, but the Clan #1 reacted well to each of them to keep the hosts ahead into the break.

Glasgow skipper Dyson Stevenson got the second period action started as he burst off the bench and released a power shot which Little did well to bash away with his blocker.

Charlie Combs then doubled the Clan’s lead on the powerplay as he scooped the puck around Little and tucked it into the bottom corner.

Teemu Pulkkinen spoiled the celebrations shortly after though as he halved the deficit with a powerplay goal of his own.

In the third period, Luke Lynch zipped the puck across the Flyers’ zone and right onto Gary Haden’s stick but the #23 tapped it just wide of the target.

Lynch then grabbed a goal of his own, restoring Glasgow’s two-goal lead when he picked up the scraps from Darien Craighead’s shot and jabbed the puck into the net.

Kielly remained resilient in net for the hosts as he fended off Fife’s front line throughout the third period to prevent their chances of a late comeback.

Sol eventually wrapped up the game when he grabbed his third goal in four games with a shorthanded, empty net finish from his own zone in the very last second.
