Glasgow Clan went top of the Elite League with a 3-2 victory over the Manchester Storm in the first league fixture of the new campaign.Image

Both sides started brightly, but the Clan took control of the opening period with two quick goals. Deven Sideroff put the hosts ahead 6:22 into the game with a shot that looped over Evan Weninger. The lead was doubled when Brett Neumann pounced on a rebound from a Joe Hazeldine feed, set up by Tristin Langan, with just over four minutes left in the period.

The Clan made it 3-0 just 2:57 into the second when Rylan Schwartz’s shot from the point found its way through traffic and past Weninger. Joseph Nardi pulled one back for the Storm on an odd-man rush after the Clan were caught in possession – the puck possibly deflecting off former Clan man Gary Haden – at 32:42.

The visitors set up a tense finish when JD Dudek cut the deficit to 3-2 with 13:37 to play. Weninger was pulled twice inside the final 90 seconds, but the Storm could not find the equaliser.
