Clan get much-needed Cup win

Glasgow Clan kept their Challenge Cup campaign alive with a 4-1 win over Dundee Stars at Braehead Arena on Sunday night – captain Deven Sideroff the standout with all four goals for the home side. Two ice hockey players in purple Clan jerseys numbered 58 and another, wearing helmets and gloves, stand on the rink celebrating with sticks raised, one kneeling and the other standing, surrounded by blurred crowd spectators behind glass barriers, with team banners and sponsor ads like OSC on the boards.

Clan struck first at 9:47 when a stretch pass from Jason Fram sent Brayden Burke through on a 2-on-1, his feed to Sideroff in the slot finished neatly to open the scoring. Dundee levelled less than two minutes later with their first shot of the game – a deflected breakout fell kindly to Matt Boudens, who wristed home from the slot to tie things up at one apiece.

All square through 20 minutes, the Clan began to take control in the middle frame. Sideroff restored the lead just 84 seconds into period two, then completed his hat trick late in the period, redirecting Burke’s shot past Emil Kruse on a 5-on-3 powerplay at 38:13. The Stars were already a man down before a too-many-men call left them with three skaters, and Clan punished them.

With just under seven minutes to play in the third, Sideroff made it four – his shot from the angle slipped through Kruse’s glove after taking a slight deflection off a defenseman’s stick.

The win lifted Clan to second in the Cup standings, meaning the Stars must win next weekend’s return fixture in Dundee to keep their own qualification hopes alive.
