Clan end skid with 3-2 win over Dundee

Rylan Schwartz’s overtime winner for Glasgow Clan ended a five-game losing run to edge past Dundee Stars in a 3-2 thrilling victory at Braehead Arena.

Dundee came to Glasgow looking to cement their own play-off hopes, but for the Clan, they needed to find that winning feeling again before the post season.

An early look on goal for Keaton Jameson was off target as he managed to turn, with his back to goal in front of the blue paint, but poked it wide.

Clan went a man down as Joe Hazeldine sat on a cross check penalty with Dundee keen to make the most of it as Philippe Sanche and Zach Tsekos forced saves out of Landon Bow in Glasgow’s goal.

Chris McKay, stepping in as captain for the absent Deven Sideroff, fired one on the net that took a touch from Cole Ully on the way, but Jarrett Fiske turned it away.

Fiske pulled off a great save to deny Matt Berry after Rylan Schwartz sent the puck from the right with a touch from Cade Neilson finding the Clan #14 at the back post, but Fiske reset himself to make a crucial block.

The heroics counted for nothing as the home side took the lead, winning the face off and sending the puck to McKay, who blasted one on goal, coming off Neilson on the way leaving Fiske beaten.

Stars equalised minutes into the second period as a final touch from Xavier Pouliot in front of the Clan net was enough to take it beyond Bow as the puck trickled its way into the net.

They went ahead minutes later in a quick move from one end to the other as Tsekos set up Spencer Naas, who smashed a powerful shot past the Clan goalie and into the net.

The middle stanza got a little feisty as Clan found themselves killing a five-on-three penalty, which they survived, helped by a couple of terrific stops from Bow.

Brett Gravelle saw his dangerous effort swept away by the home netminder with Neilson’s chance up the other end late on in the second grazing the outside of Fiske’s left side post.

Sanche hit the bar early on in the third, which could have been terminal for Clan’s chances, but it meant they were able to get back on level terms not long after.

Another combination between Tyson McLellan and Liam Finlay saw the former find the latter in front of the Stars net to tap in the finish.

Dundee were denied on a shorthanded breakaway as Drydn Dow’s effort – teed up by Keanu Yamamoto – saw Bow pull off another good save.

In the extra period, the puck broke loose in front of net after McKay had tested Fiske again, with Schwartz on the doorstep to clinch the winner.
