Clan double up on Fife

Part two of the Flyers and Clan back to back match ups saw the visitors with an unchanged line up from the previous evening as they were still without Daniel Tedesco due to visa process changes along with the injured quartet of Chris McKay, Colton Poolman, Felix Pare and Hugo Roy. The Flyers had one change from the road defeat the previous night as Vlastimil Dostalek departed the club earlier that day. David Booth and Milan Lucic were still unable to ice due to visa process changes and Jeremy Masella was still on rehabilitation from his injury.#image_title

The Clan made a bright start to the game and in the 2nd minute Jason Fram forced the first chance when Shane Owen paddled away the puck in his slot. The Flyers responded and Garet Hunt almost connected with a rebound from Sami Aittokallio but the puck bobbled with a gaping net. The visitors had the lead at 3:02 when a slip in the neutral zone allowed Brayden Burke to tear down the left wing and his pass was perfectly on the tape of Brady Risk who went to the net to scoop the puck past Owen. In the 4th minute Robert Lachowicz tested Owen with a long range slapshot and a minute later a snapshot by Keaton Jameson caught the shaft of Aittokallio’s stick to deflect the puck into the corner. An Ethan Somoza shot in the 6th minute caught the shoulder of the Clan keeper to stay out. Ther Flyers were creating the better chances and in the 10th minute Josh Winquist labelled a shot for the top corner short side but Aittokallio stood tall to make the save. The first powerplay of the game went the way of the Clan in the 11th minute as Ryan Nicholson was sent to the box for high sticking. Brett Neumann  had a chance for the Clan but the Flyers almost grabbed a shorthanded goal as Somoza was sprung at the Clan blueline and skated in on Aittokallio who went full splits to take away all of the lower part of the net and keep the puck out. In the final seconds of the man advantage the Flyers were able to scramble the puck away from around their crease as they completed the kill and returned to full strength. The Flyers snatched the game tying goal at 15:05 when Cade Neilson coughed the puck up in neutral ice and Winquist was able to deke Aittokallio before lifting the puck high over the prone keeper. Mason Alderson had a shot from the high slot go in and out of Aittokallio’s glove in the 17th minute and the Flyers ended the period on the powerplay as Jameson was tripped by Joe Hazeldine. The visitors however were strong on the kill with the Flyers being unable to get anything set up.

In the opening 30 seconds of the middle period Owen came up with a big save as he was able to squeeze the puck against his body after a Tristin Langan shot from a great position in the slot. The Clan had all of the momentum in the opening stages and Owen was happy to cover up the puck in the 22nd minute and get a stop in play. Johan Porsberger had a shot that looked destined for the top corner blockered away by Aittokallio in the 26th minute and the Clan went back on the powerplay in the 28th minute as Andrew McLean was called for delay of game for shooting the puck over the glass. Hunt came up with a great shot block as Owen was pulled out of position and the net was gaping before the Flyers returned to full strength unscathed. In the 33rd minute Logan Neilson carried the puck into the Clan zone but was denied by a solid save by the visiting goalie. In the 35th minute Brady Risk had a shot blockered away by Owen who them made two saves in quick succession to keep out Langan and Steven Seigo. The Flyers thought they had the lead in the 37th minute as Giordano Finoro redirected the puck into the net with his skate. The play was reviewed and the goal over turned as the puck had been adjudged to have been kicked into the net. On the play Deven Sideroff was binned for holding as he and Hunt tangled behind the play. The Flyers best chance fell to Anton Karlsson who saw his one timer stopped as Aittokallio went post to post as the Clan returned to full strength. With just 50 seconds remaining in the period the Clan took the lead as Sideroff took advantage of a giveaway to go in alone to beat Owen when he popped the water bottle.

Aittokallio made the first save of the third period as he squeezed his arm tight to keep a shot from Ian Scheid out. The Flyers were penalised again in the 42nd minute as Karlsson got the gate for a hook. The visitors had a number of good looks on their man advantage but Owen was sharp as the Flyers killed off the penalty. A great stick by Scheid in the 47th minute deflected a shot from a dangerous position high into the netting. In the 49th minute some neat stickhandling by Jameson through the slot drew a penalty as Rylan Schwartz was forced to hook him. The Flyers couldn’t have come any closer to tying the game as Winquist wired a one timer from the right circles off the junction of the post and bar and the Clan survived to return to full strength. The home side were back on the power play in the 56th minute as Somoza broke in on the right wing but was hooked by Langan as he tried to go to the net. The Flyers had plays set up in the first half of their man advantage but couldn’t find a quality opening and the Clan went on to complete the kill without any real danger. With 2:21 to play the Flyers called a timeout and following a huge pad save by Owen on Sideroff were able to pull the keeper for the extra skater with 1:40 remaining but the Clan kept the home attacks to the outside and Aittokallio wasn’t called upon to make a significant stop.
