Clan complete six-point week

Glasgow Clan edged Scottish rivals Fife Flyers by the odd goal in five in a feisty game in Kirkcaldy, watched by 2,002 spectators.

“We’re really happy to get the win,” said Cade Neilson of the Clan, whose team celebrated a six-point week with the victory. “We’re beginning to build some momentum now with the three wins this week – we’ve really started to pick it up.”

Tristan Langan put the visitors ahead as he walked in through the Flyers defence with 6:34 played. The Flyers levelled off a faceoff at 18:28 as the puck fell to Mason Alderson, who scored his first ever professional goal.

Fife took the lead on a 3-on-1 shorthanded rush that saw Johan Porsberger set up Josh Winquist for a one-time finish 1:57 into period two. That lead lasted just 22 seconds, however, as Hugo Roy broke down the wing and roofed a shot past Christian Purboo to tie things up again. Just over nine minutes later, Alex Forbes’ shot from the point went all the way through to put Clan back ahead.

Chris McKay was ejected for a cross-check with just over two minutes to go in period two, but the home side failed to capitalise on their five-minute advantage.

“It was nice to go into the third period with the lead instead of chasing the game,” added Neilson. “I think there are a lot of positives from this game but some things we still need to work on.”

Neilson looked to have sewn things up for the Clan with 8:05 to play, but the goal was called back after the officials ruled that the whistle had been blown before Neilson put the puck over the line. In the end it didn’t matter, as the Clan held on for the one-goal win.

“Every time we come to Fife, or they come to us, we know it’s going to be a battle and a hard-fought game. Positive vibes for us tonight,” concluded Neilson.
