Clan come from two down, take shootout win

early chances as Darien Craighead’s shot from the centre was turned away by Guildford goalie Taz Burman.

Then further efforts from Philippe Sanche and Jake Bolton gave the visitors cause for concern before Mike Crocock flashed one in from the right to sting Antti Karjalainen’s glove.

Burman produced an outstanding instinctive save as another piledriver from Bolton zeroed in on the visiting net.

Karjalainen had to be sharp when Steven McParland’s shot was tipped onwards by Peter Crinella, with the Clan netminder making the save before denying Matt Alvaro shortly after.

But Glasgow were behind at the end of the first as Brett Ferguson finished a wraparound on the powerplay to give Flames the lead.

Sanche was sent through on Burman by a stretch pass early in the second, but could only send his shot wide.

Crocock’s effort from wide right at the blue line managed to bounce away from Karjalainen, but thankfully hit the post, giving Clan a lucky break.

The Clan goalie produced an excellent glove save to deny former Glasgow forward Steven McParland before Gary Haden played in Mike Pelech up the other end, but the backhand effort slipped wide.

Guildford got a slice of luck when Ryan Tait fed the puck in from the left, only for it to come off the skate of the unwitting Bolton, slipping past Karjalainen.

Clan started the third period on the front but were somehow denied as Burman saw off chances from Craighead then Haden’s follow-up.

But they finally got the goal they deserved when Luke Lynch picked up the pass from Sanche and drilled his effort into the net.

Karjalainen got arguably the biggest cheer when he denied McParland low at his left-hand post from point blank range to keep Clan in the game with seven minutes to go.

Then the second goal came.  The home side’s efforts were rewarded in the final five minutes when the puck broke in front of the crease, falling nicely for Robert Lachowicz, who tucked it home.

Overtime duly came, with the game tied at two apiece, but it was penalty shots that were needed to separate the teams, with Craighead coming up with only successful attempt.
