Indianapolis, IN- TheCincinnati Cyclones (2-1-1-0) earned a 3-2 win over the Indy Fuel on Saturday night. Forwards Ben Johnson and John Edwardh, along with defenseman Cody Sol netted the goals for Cincinnati, who salvaged the split of the weekend series.
Cincinnati wasted little time finding the back of the net, as just :27 into the opening period Johnson stole a pass in the offensive zone and roofed a backhander over the shoulder of Fuel goaltender Chase Marchand to put the Cyclones on top, 1-0.
The momentum was short-lived however, as roughly four minutes later Fuel defenseman Tim Shoup found the back of the net to tie the game, 1-1. Shoup was not finished and lit the lamp once more at the 16:57 mark to lift Indy to a 2-1 advantage after 20 minutes.
Cincinnati needed just 1:59 to tie the game in the second when Edwardh beat out an icing and found the puck in front of the goal after a funny bounce off the end boards and scored, to pull Cincinnati even, 2-2.
With less than five minutes remaining Cincinnati regained the lead when forward Cory Ward won a face-off to Sol, and he hammered home a point shot to put the Cyclones on top, 3-2, after two periods.
Both teams continued to pepper the net with shots, however Indy was not able to get the equalizer, and Cincinnati held on for the 3-2 win.
Cincinnati outshot the Fuel, 28-25 on the evening, with goaltender Michael Houser stopping 23 in the win. The Cyclones return home on Wednesday night when they welcome in the Florida Everblades. Face-off is scheduled for 7:35pm ET.
