Chychrun outscores Ducks

In Anaheim, Jakob Chychrun collected his first NHL hat trick for the Arizona Coyotes on Sunday night.

He finished the feat in extra time to give Arizona a 3-2 win over the Ducks.

“From the beginning of the game, I was just jumping up in the play,” Chychrun said. “I just found I was kind of in a good rhythm, finding spots and picking spots.”

Adin Hill made 18 saves to backstop the win.

Arizona has moved to 18-15-5.

“It’s exciting,” Chychrun said. “We’re excited in this room. We know there’s a chance to make a really big push here.”

The Coyotes have won five of their last six matches.

“They were engaged,” Anaheim head coach Dallas Eakins said. “The work was there. We’ve just got to, again, bury our chances.”

Sam Carrick, on loan from the San Diego Gulls of the American Hockey League, scored to give the Ducks a 1-0 lead in the game.

“We called him up knowing exactly what we were going to get from him,” Eakins said. “It’s going to be hard work and nothing less.”

Carrick was reunited with a teammate in his season debut.

“Trevor Zegras is a perfect example of a guy that we’re trying to get the puck in his hands and let him work his magic,” Carrick said. “For his age (20), what he’s doing at this level, is pretty special.”

The Ducks had two leads in the game, Derek Grant  scored to give them a 2-1 lead, also in the first period.John Gibson made 28 saves in the loss.

Gibson stopped a penalty shot in the extra session from Clayton Keller.

“Obviously, we had a good save there,” Eakins said. “They ended up winning the draw and scoring. The penalty shot didn’t rattle us or throw us off-kilter. I thought [Gibson] did a great job holding his net.”
