Christie off to Capitals

EDINBURGH,U.K- The latest Canadian recruit to the United Kingdom is former ECHL and Phoenix Roadrunner defenseman Taylor Christie. The 26 year-old blueliner has joined the Elite league’s Edinburgh Capitals, on a one-year contract. Drafted in 2002 (Round Six, 195 overall) by the Colarado Avalanche the 6’3″ defenseman spent four years playing Division One hockey for Bowling Green State University before taking the step to playing pro. Despite being drafted Christie didn’t reach the dizzy heights of the NHL, instead carving out a career in the ECHL. Christie has spent time with the Utah Grizzlies and the Reading Royals. Last season was split between Dayton Bombers and Phoenix Roadrunners. Christie spent the second half of the season with the Roadrunners playing in 24 games registering two goals and eight assists. It was Christie’s second stint with the ECHL outfit after playing for them in 2005. Christie has high hopes for his future in the UK and in particular his first European team. “To be able to experience life in a city like Edinburgh is something I’m truly looking forward to,” Christie said “I know our team will be exciting to watch and that hockey fans in Edinburgh will have fun and entertaining experience at our games this winter.” Capitals Director of hockey Doug Christiansen spoke of his satisfaction of his latest aquisition. “Taylor Christie is going to be a standout defenseman for us, “TC” personifies a two-way D-man who will log alot of minutes for us this season,” Christiansen said “I know the fans in Edinburgh will be pleased with Taylor this season.” Christie will link up with the Capitals in late August ahead of preseason training.
