ODESSA, Texas – The last half-dozen games are on the schedule in the Central Hockey League’s regular season and not much has changed since mid-December. The Eagles are still in their perch and the RiverKings are knocking on the branch. The four division leaders in the CHL are now
firmly ensconced in this week’s top four positions. The Eagles, ‘Kings, Brahmas, and Jackalopes are heading to the post season with confidence. In Hidalgo, the Killer Bees remain hot and certainly have enough self-confidence to make noise in the post season. What has kept the Bees in their spot in our poll is the steady play of the MudBugs, Bucks and Blazers. The Bees may well be the sleeper team in this year’s chase for the Ray Miron championship.
Meanwhile, the comedy of errors in the steerage class of the CHL continues. The IceRays currently have the upper-hand in the race for the final playoff berth in the southern conference. But they have not shown the ability to win consistently. The SunDogs are chasing the same spot along with the Scorpions. Those two teams meet three times in Rio Rancho in the coming week and the post season may still be on the line.
Nothing has really changed in the CHL standings since mid-December. The talent-laden teams in the CHL are still on top and headed to the playoffs since December and the second tiered teams are where they were in December. Where is the incentive for fans of the lower tier to cheer their teams? For most of the CHL member franchises the season has been over and done since mid-December.
