CHL down to the final six

READING, PA – A hat trick by Scott Timmins and two goals by Taylor Hall lifted the Windsor Spitfires to a 6-4 win in Game Six over the Kitchener Rangers to tie the series at 3-3 setting up a Game Seven back in Windsor in the OHL Western Conference finals. The winner would take on the Barrie Colts for not only the OHL championship but also the right to participate in the 2010 Memorial Cup. After going down 3-0 in their series against the Kitchener Rangers, the Windsor Spitfires did the unthinkable by coming back to win the series 4-3 and became the third team in OHL history to comeback from an 0-3 deficit to win a series. Sunday they defeated the Rangers 4-1 in Game Seven of the Rogers Western Conference Championship Series in front of a sold out crowd of 6,545. With the win, the Spitfires enter the Rogers Western Conference Championship series for the second consecutive season. This is the second time in franchise history that the Spitfires came back from 3-0 down in a series. The 2005 Windsor Spitfire did it by defeating the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds after trailing 0-3 in the series.  The Spitfires will now defend their OHL Championship against the Barrie Colts who will have home ice advantage in the series beginning tonight in Barrie. The winner of this series will win the OHL Championship and clinch a berth in the 2010 Mastercard Memorial Cup to be held in Brandon, Manitoba. Also, participating in the Memorial Cup will be the QMJHL champion, the WHL champion, and the team from the host city, the Brandon Wheat Kings of the WHL. In the WHL, the Calgary Hitmen and the Kelowna Rockets will meet in the WHL championship series. Calgary is coming off of a four game sweep of Brandon while Kelowna defeated the Vancouver Giants in six games. Over in the QMJHL, the Saint John Sea Dogs will face off against the Moncton Wildcats in the QMJHL championship finals. Saint John defeated Victoriaville in six games while Moncton defeated Drummondville in five. The schedule for the QMJHL finals will be announced later today.
The Memorial Cup tournament will begin on May 14th and will start off with the OHL champ facing off against Brampton. The Championship game will be held on May 23.
