Chicoutimi forces Game Six

QUEBEC CITY P.Q.—The goal scored in the second period by Antoine Roussel made the difference in Chicoutimi’s 4-3 victory over Rimouski Oceanic on Sunday night.
 
Chicoutimi played a strong first period, scoring three goals on nine shots on Philippe Tremblay in the opening period. Emrik Guillemette (2:27), Steve Lebel (power play 14:32) and Mathieu Populus (18:49) got Sagueneens on the board.
 
In the second period, added Chicoutimi’s fourth goal before Rimouski offense woke up with two goals by Alexandre Malette (power play 6:48) and Petr Straka. Alex Belzile scored the third Oceanic goal on the power play at 5:19 but it was too late.
 
Christopher Gibson did very well for head coach Richard Martel making 18 saves on 21 shots.
 
Tremblay for his part made 23 saves on 27 shots.
 
Roussel, Dominic Jalbert of Chicoutimi and Gleason Fournier for Rimouski were the three stars of the game.
 
The next game will be Tuesday night in Rimouski.
 
Elsewhere in the QMJHL
 In Val-d’Or: Rouyn-Noranda’s 5-1 victory removed all hope for the Foreurs to force game six in this series.
 
Five different scorers beat Val-d’Or goaltender Raffaele D’Orso who faced a barrage of 43 shots.   Foreurs’ head coach Marc-Andre Dumont sent young goaltender Jacob Gervais-Chouinard at 16:26 of first period facing only three shots before D’Orso returned for the second period.
 
The Huskies scored four goals in seven minutes in taking a commanding 4-0 lead before the Foreurs scored their only goal in the game. Jordan Caron opened the gate for Rouyn-Noranda with power play goal at 9:13. The Huskies’ other scorers were Alexandre Beauregard (14:30), Jeff Desjardins (16:17) and Jean-Sebastien Berube (16:26). Maxime Sauve got Val-d’Or’s only goal in the game at 17:43 in the first period.
 
Three stars of the game were: Raffaele D’Orso, Simon Lacroix and Alexandre Quesnel.
 
In Shawinigan: The Victoriaville Tigres needed overtime to eliminate Shawinigan 2-1. Phillip-Michael Devos, with Marc-Andre Gelinas in the penalty box for the Cataractes, notched the winning goal, winning the series 4-2.
 
After a scoreless first, both teams traded goals in the second period. Victoriaville, with the help of the man-advantage, saw Joel Champagne beat Shawinigan goaltender Marc-Antoine Gelinas.  
 
Gelinas made 45 saves on 47 shots in 73:04 minutes. Kevin Poulin made 38 saves on 39 shots.
 
Antoine Houde-Caron scored Shawinigan’s only goal when his team was a man short at14:43 in second period.
