Chicoutimi complete perfect weekend with shootout win over Quebec

QUEBEC CITY, P.Q. —Winning in overtime against Sherbrroke on Saturday night (2-1), Chicoutimi completed a perfect weekend needing a shootout before registering another 2-1 win against Quebec. Battling over 65 minutes allowing only one goal on each side, Xavier Potvin got the edge over his opponent netminder as Vincent Lapalme of Chicoutimi finally get the best against Callum Booth beating Quebec goalie between his pads with the fifth shot.

Chicoutimi Sagueneens Chicoutimi struck first scoring the only goal of the opening period. Dominating the early portion of the first period, blanking Saguennens on their first power play opportunity, the home team drew first blood as they scored on their second chance with a man up.

Controlling the puck in the Quebec zone, Chicoutimi saw Quebec Booth make the save on the first shot coming from Nicolas Roy, taking the rebound Frederic Allard made a perfect pass to Dmitry Zhukenov leaving no chance to Quebec netminder, who has been beaten on stick side with 1:07 remaining in the first period.

Quebec dominated on shots on goal 11-7 but trailed by one on main scoreboard.

Like the first period, Quebec took control of the puck putting pressure offensively getting two good scoring chances, one from the stick of Matthew Boucher in a two-on-one with teammate Olivier Garneau. The second came from the stick of Louis-Philip Cote. While Boucher missed the net, on first occasion Potvin the Sagueneens netminder frustrated Cote with a pad save.

Going 0-in-2 with a men advantage, the penalty to Chicoutimi netminder Xavier Potvin cost the tying goal for the team coached by Yanick Jean. Left uncovered to Chicoutimi netminder right side, Derek Gentile beat Potvin over his left shoulder with a wrist shot with 7:21 left to play in the middle frame.

Playing very strong game Chicoutimi netminder Potvin frustrated Garneau and Boucher for second times in the game preventing Quebec to take the lead for first time in the game.

Chicoutimi began the third period with 35 seconds left to their power play following a penalty taken by Quebec Yanick Turcotte as his stick touch the puck as he was to step on the ice. As neither teams was able to put the puck behind the goal line in the third period they had to go in overtime trying to find a winner.

As exciting the three-on-three play has been both goaltenders closed their respective doors leading to shootout. After four players tried their best to find a way to put the puck behind the other goalie, the only one ben successful was Vincent Lapalme for Yanick Jean team.

Quebec will be back home on Wednesday hosting Shawinigan Cataractes.
