Chicago rally back for 4-3 OT win over Sabres Seth Jones scores twice, including game-winner

In Chicago, the Blackhawks rallied back from a 3-1 deficit on Tuesday night to down the Buffalo Sabres, 4-3, in extra time.

Seth Jones tied the game late in the third period for Chicago, and potted the game-winner in the extra session for the 4-3 win.

The tying goal came with 56 seconds left on the regulation clock, and an extra skater on the ice.

“It feels really good,” Jones said. “You know, we didn’t start the way we wanted to in this game, and after the second [period] we came in here and it was all positive talk and what we needed to do and tie it up and get back in the game. And we did that.

“It’s always good when the [defensemen] get involved and help the forwards out putting the puck in the net. We haven’t done it enough this year, so it’s nice to kind of start getting that going for us in the second half.”

Peter Mrazek made 30 saves in the Hawks win.

Chicago moved to 12-26-4 off their fourth win in five games.

The Blackhawks took a 1-0 lead on a marker from Connor Murphy  at 8:41 of the opening period.

Buffalo relied with three straight goals.

Victor Olofsson tied in the first, 1-1, and  Tage Thompson scored with seven seconds left in the period for a 2-1 advantage to the Sabres.

“Obviously that one stinks,” Buffalo forward Tyson Jost said. “We’ll go over it and figure out what needs to be better. I thought we did a lot of good things. We just [got] a little bit away from our game. That one stinks, for sure.

“I think we had more jump today than we did yesterday. Yesterday, we were a little bit flat. We were creating stuff. We were fine. Just a couple little lulls there.”

Buffalo dropped to 21-19-3.

“Krebs had great jump,” Buffalo coach Don Granato said. “Stepping back for a couple games, he comes back into the lineup and had great jump. It’s very nice to see him score. He had a breakaway much like that a week or two ago. He got in the same situation, adjusted what he did and made it happen. Nice to see that part.”

Buffalo pushed the lead to 3-1 in the second on a goal from Peyton Krebs .

Chicago got one back early in the third on a strike from Philipp Kurashev.

Craig Anderson made 22 saves in the Sabres loss.

“His elbow goes right in my glove,” Anderson said. “It doesn’t allow me to make the save, a wrist shot from the point … all day long. On the replay, from what I’m seeing, obviously I don’t make the calls, but his left foot’s in the crease, his elbow goes into my glove, not allowing my glove to make the save. But you don’t get the calls.

“You’ve got to battle through it and find a way to win. We just weren’t able to do that.”
