CHARLOTTE, NC – Bobby Sanguinetti has been announced as the IOA/American Specialty AHL Man of the Year winner for his contributions to the Charlotte community during the 2011/12 season.
Injuries have kept Bobby off the ice for 60 games over the last two seasons. While he has been unable to display his talents in games he has been very active with Checkers community projects. Visiting hospitals and schools as well as fan related events.
Sanguinetti donated four season tickets to a local charity and chose Camp Care where children with cancer go to camp and have fun, as his special project. He sent more than 100 children to the camp this season. He also made a substantial donation to the “Checkers with the Checkers” tournament and fundraiser; more than $5,000 was raised for the Children’s Organ Transplant Association.
There are 30 finalists for the AHL’s 2011-12 Yanick Dupre Memorial Award, honoring the overall IOA/American Specialty Man of the Year. The league award is named after the former Hershey Bears forward and AHL All-Star who died in 1997 following a 16-month battle with leukemia. The winner of the award will be announced shortly.
Fan Appreciation Day is set for Saturday April 7 at 12pm when the Checkers host the Abbotsford Heat in the first ever AHL/NBA doubleheader at the Time Warner cable Arena.
