DES MOINES, IA – The Iowa Wild (5-8-0-0, 10 points) were defeated by the Charlotte Checkers (7-3-0-0, 14 points) 4-1 in front of 6,143 fans on Friday night at Wells Fargo Arena. Checkers defenseman Matt Tennyson had a hat trick, leading the Checkers to their sixth straight win. Goalie Michael Leighton (6-0-0) made 33 saves for the win. Iowa goalie Steve Michalek (4-3-0-0) made 26 saves in the loss. Wild defenseman Gustav Olofsson scored his club’s lone goal. Iowa welcomes the Ontario Reign for the first time in team history on Saturday at 7 PM. 
After a scoreless first period, Checkers defenseman Matt Tennyson gave Charlotte a 1-0 lead with his first goal of the year at 15:58 of the second period. The power-play goal was assisted by Trevor Carrick and Sergey Tolchinksky. At 16:27 of the middle frame, defenseman Gustav Olofsson scored on the Wild power play, tying the game 1-1. Forwards Teemu Pulkkinen and Pat Cannone helped set up Olofsson’s second goal of the season.
Tennyson scored his second goal of the night at 4:19 of the third period, giving Charlotte a 2-1 lead. The goal was set up by forwards Andrew Miller and Lucas Wallmark. Tennyson’s shot beat Michalek on his glove side. Charlotte forward Clark Bishop made it a 3-1 game at 7:42 of the third period. Bishop’s first goal of the season was set up by Wallmark and Roland McKeown. Tennyson completed his hat trick at 19:51 of the third period, extending Charlotte’s lead to 4-1. The empty-net goal was assisted by Andrew Poturalski and Andrew Miller.
