Checkers get back to winning ways

CHARLOTTE, NC – The Charlotte Checkers tied their two-game home stand against the Milwaukee Admirals with a 3-1 victory on Tuesday night.
It was the Admirals that got on the scoreboard first with Chris Mueller scoring a power play goal at 8:08 of the first period. Fans were beginning to feel that this could be another home loss for the Checkers, since Charlotte had recorded only one win in its last six home games. However, this time the club would turn things around.
Nine minutes into the second period Charlotte’s Zac Dalpe tied the game after a give-and-go with Drayson Bowman. Two minutes later Tim Wallace scored what would be the winning goal, putting Charlotte up 2-1. Wallace had an excellent game and looks like a good signing for the Hurricanes; he was voted the Roll Up Your Sleeves Hardest Worker of the Game after Tuesday’s contest.
The second period proved to be a tough one for the Admirals. They let Charlotte score twice while only taking two shots at the Checkers’ net, the fewest number of shots Charlotte has allowed in a single period this season.
In the third period the Checkers went further ahead when Justin Faulk put them 3-1 up. This was a huge boost for Charlotte, giving Faulk his fourth goal of the season. Justin Peters made 20 saves in the Checkers’ net while Milwaukee goalie Magnus Hellburg made 33 stops. The win propelled Charlotte back to the top of the South Division.
Charlotte stays at home on Friday and Saturday when they face the Houston Aeros, who are right behind them in the standings. The puck drops at 7 p.m. on Friday and 12 p.m. on Saturday.
