down against Grand Rapid Griffins. Tomas Tatar and Loius-Marc Aubry getting on the score sheet for the Griffins. Things looked bad for the Checkers during that first period when they were out shot 10-1.

Sanguinetti for Charlotte pulled one goal back on a power play, until then he had 15 assists but he had not scored since April of last year. The floodgates then opened for Charlotte with Chris Terry hitting an unstoppable shot past Griffin goalie Tom McCollum just under two minutes before the break.

The second period opened with Terry getting goal number two within 18 seconds of the re-start. Charlotte was now ahead 3-2. Drayson Bowman and Sean Dolan added two more goals in less than three minutes but Grand Rapids were not finished by a long way. They were pulled goalie McCollum, 10 of 15 shots saved, for Joey McDonald who certainly steadied the ship with 20 of 21 shots stopped.

Lashoff added a third goal for the Griffins then Chris Minard scored number four, game on. Defense had been largely for most of the game so it was not a surprise when Charlotte’s Zac Dalpe put the puck in the net for Charlotte’s sixth goal. Grand Rapips came back again with Chris Minard scoring their fifth goal. The finish was crazy with Charlotte defending, fortunately the buzzer saved the night for the Checkers.
