of the season on them with a 7-2 route. The previous evening’s game was an ebb and flow affair with Oklahoma coming out on top. Sundays match-up was very much a one way situation with the City Barons dominating the game.
The City Barons have some of the NHL’s best players on show due to the NHL lockout. Jordan Eberle, an NHL All Star, had his second two goal game of the weekend. The AHL’s leading scorer Justin Schultz scored one goal and had three assists. The 2010 first round pick Taylor Hall had three assists.
Anton Lander put Oklahoma ahead after four minutes of play; the game went downhill for Charlotte from then on. Tim Wallace scored the tying goal for the Checkers in the first period but Oklahoma soon jumped into a 3-1 lead.
“It almost looked like we were a bit scared of them,” said Zach Boychuk, whose five-on-three goal cut the score to 3-2 early in the second period before the Barons pulled away for good. “From the drop of the puck we were timid, and

you can’t do that against a firehouse like that. They’ll make you look silly.” The second period began with Charlotte’s Zach Boychuk narrowing the gap to 3-2 that was when the visitors swept aside Charlotte scoring another four goals. The Checkers were shell-shocked, the previous game could have gone either way, Sundays match-up was completely the opposite. “I think we gave them too much respect,” said Checkers captain Brett Sutter, who had one assist. “They’ve got three of the best players in the world out there, and if you let them they’ll make you pay.”

Dan Ellis in the Checker’s goal stopped 23 of 29 Oklahoma shots. He was withdrawn towards the end of the second period so that Justin Peters could try his hand. Oklahoma had 18 shots against Peters scoring one goal. This was Oklahoma’s fifth win in a row. The Barons are now two points behind Charlotte with one game in hand. “We didn’t get to the top of the standings by accident, and you’ve just got to remember that,” said team captain Brett Sutter. Charlotte has a five day period before the next game when they start a ten game home stand against Rockford on December1 at Time Warner Cable Arena.
