Carter lifts Kings past Jets in OT, 3-2

In Los Angeles, the story for the campaign is all about Jeff Carter who scored his 23rd of the season in overtime to send the Kings past the Winnipeg Jets, 3-2.

Marian Gaborik and Dustin Brown had regulation goals for LA who improved to 22-17-4.

The Jets put up a solid game in the loss and the Kings were clearly on their heels for parts of the game and hit a few posts before finally pulling out the win.

“We hit a lot of posts and we had a lot of opportunities and scrambles,” LA’s Jake Muzzin said. “We just capitalized on one and that got us to a tie and put us into overtime.”

Peter Budaj made 26 saves to pick up  his 20th win of the season.

The Kings improved to 9-1 in extra time this season.

“Well, we were good at it last year too, so we’re pretty well-versed in it I think. There’s some things that we do. Obviously, we score,” LA head coach Darryl Sutter said of the OT record thus far.

The Jets got goals from Drew Stafford and Dustin Byfuglien each on the power play.

“I really liked a lot of what we did and looked to build and got stronger and stronger,” Jets head coach Paul Maurice said. “We needed the third one to go to put a team like that out.”

Michael Hutchinson made 35 saves in the Winnipeg loss.

“Tonight was all about effort. We gave up an early goal but we didn’t let that get to us and we kept battling. We were able to get a couple of goals. It’s unfortunate that they tied it up late in the game, but at the same time the way we rebounded after an early goal was really a huge positive for us,” Hutchinson said of the Jets’ effort in gaining the point.
