Tristan Jarry made 19 saves in the win.

“We know, in the playoffs, it’s going to be real tight,” the Pens’ Kris Letang said. “Based on the schedule we had, we faced teams that were already out of the playoffs. So we have to focus on our games and play the right way so we go into the playoffs feeling good about ourselves both offensively and defensively.”

Drake Caggiula scored twice for the Sabres

“I like our confidence,” Sabres head coach Don Granato said. “I like our thought that we can go score, but we didn’t know what we should respect enough. … We didn’t respect the fact that we’re playing against a team that, if we don’t take care of things the right way, the puck the right way, they can score quick and convert quick.”

Sidney Crosby, Brian Dumoulin, Jared McCann, and Kasperi Kapanen  also scored for Pittsburgh.

“There aren’t too many four-goal games around the whole League,” Penguins head coach Mike Sullivan said. “It’s hard. It’s hard to score goals in this league, never mind four in a game. It doesn’t happen very often. It’s a huge accomplishment. He had a terrific game for us.”

Tage Thompson and Jeff Skinner added single markers for the Sabres.

“Looking at it individually, it’s been a tough year in terms of goal-scoring,” Caggiula said. “It feels good to get that monkey off your back. It’s a little late in the season now, but you’ll take them any way you can get them.”

Michael Houser made 26 saves in the loss.
