Carolina in a cool breeze over the Bruins, 5-1 Canes lead series 3-2

In Raleigh, the Carolina Hurricanes’ Antti Raanta made 34 saves  in a breezy 5-1 win  over the Boston Bruins in Game 5 on Tuesday night.“That’s what goaltending does,” Carolina coach Rod Brind’Amour said. “That team is going to generate opportunities and certainly did, and [Raanta] was good.”

The Canes took a 3-2 series lead with win.

Game 6 is set for Boston on Thursday.

“Not enough up and down the lineup,” Boston coach Bruce Cassidy said. “We’re going to need a little bit more, whether it’s working hard to keep the puck out of the net, blocking shots, finishing checks so guys can’t join the rush. We need to get some guys going.”

Seth Jarvis hit for a double for the Hurricanes.

Boston’s Connor Clifton was the lone striker for the Bruins, his goal came in the third period after the Canes had built a 4-0 lead.

“A lot of what-ifs in the game. It doesn’t matter,” Boston’s Brad Marchand said. “All that matters is we let this one go. Whether you win or lose, you’ve got to have the same recipe. You’ve got to let it go. It’s all about the next one now.”

Jaccob Slavin  and Tony  DeAngelo (power play) gave the Hurricanes a 2-0 lad in the first period.

Jarvis scored in the middle frame with a power play strike for a 3-0 advantage.

Boston was scoreless in three power play chances.

Jarvis’ second goal came in the third period, off the power play, to extend the lead to 4-0.

“You love seeing that from a young kid that comes in and earns his way in the League and earns his way up the chart in every aspect of the game,” Brind’Amour said. “I can’t say enough good things about him.”

Vincent Trocheck hit an empty-net goal for the 5-1 final.

Jeremy Swayman made 33 saves in the Bruins loss.

“[Swayman] had a bit of tough luck,” Cassidy said. “He gave us a chance after that. There was a stretch there we weren’t very good in front of him. I’m certainly not putting this on Jeremy. We need to finish a little better when we get our opportunities.”
