Caps hand Flyers another loss Flyers drop 5-2 decision

PHILADELPHIA – The Philadelphia Flyers managed to keep Alex Ovechkin off the goal sheet Thursday night but not Jason Chimera who scored two power play goals and an assist in the Washington Capitals 5-2 win.

“I don’t even remember the last time I scored a power-play goal,” Chimera said. “It was nice to fill in and do a good job.”

The Caps also got goals from T.J. Oshie, Justin Williams and Nicklas Backstrom in the win.Washington Capitals logo

Scott Laughton and Claude Giroux scored for the Flyers who have now lost seven of their last eight games.

“We came out and we had a good start, we competed hard through the night, but you make some mistakes against that team and it ends up in the back of your net, and they took advantage of that,” Flyers coach Dave Hakstol said.

Braden Holtby made 18 saves to get the win.

“I thought we did a better job of getting people to the net, for sure,” Chimera said,  “Our line was definitely getting those chances when [Williams] found the loose puck and put it in. We haven’t had too many of those games with a good net presence.”

After the strong start to the game, the Flyers sagged and the Caps took advantage on the power play.

“I don’t think we’re shooting the puck enough and we’re turning down too many opportunities,” Hakstol said. “Entering the zone and getting pucks to the net is something that we’ve got to do a better job of and something were talking about.”

Steve Mason took the loss with 27 saves.
