Capitals steal win in Winnipeg

WINNIPEG – It was all too familiar for Winnipeg fans at the MTS Centre as the Jets controlled most of the play for most of the game but once again came away empty handed as the Washington Capitals scored a goal with thirty seconds remaining in the WPG Jets logothird to steal two points and hand the Jets there second straight home loss.

Jay Beagle took advantage of a lost face off in the Winnipeg end and pounced on a rebound to score his first goal of the season to give the Capitals a 3-2 win.

Braden Holtby stopped 43 shots to get the win for Washington who have now won three straight.

Holtby stoned Winnipeg’s Nikolaj Ehlers more then once Tuesday night as Ehlers had eight shots on the Caps’ net.

The Capitals jumped out to a 2-0 lead heading into the third period after they got goals from Karl Alzner who potted his second of the season and Marcus Johansson who notched his sixth goal of the year.

The Jets finally got some life as Mark Scheifele scored his fifth of the season after converting a nice feed from Blake Wheeler. Adam Lowry tied things up with just over two minutes to go scoring his first of the season after some great work from line mates Joel Armia and Kyle Connor.

Things were looking good for the Jets until Lowry lost a defensive zone draw and the Capitals converted with thirty seconds left to steal two points.

Connor Hellebuyck got the start for Winnipeg and stopped 24 out of 27 shots taking the loss.

The Jets will head out on the road now and face the Capitals on Thursday night in Washington for a rematch.

The Jets were without Mark Stuart as he suffered a lower body injury in the morning skate . Julian Melchiori was recalled from the Manitoba Moose and saw almost 13 minutes on the blue line tonight.
