Capitals rout New Jersey, 6-2 Caps fans pay to watrch Ovechkin hit for double in win - Update to follow

In Washington, Capitals fans came out to watch their team down the New Jersey Devils, 6-2 on Tuesday night. They watched Alex Ovechkin hit for a double and three points in the win.

Washington scored four times in the third period to break the game open.

Charlie Lindgren made 37 saves in the win.

The Caps moved to 25-21-8 off their second straight win.

The Caps took a 2-1 lead into the third period.

Connor McMichael  also hit for a double in the win, his first came with 39 seconds gone in the opening stanza. The strike came iff a rebound.

New Jersey replied with a marker from Alexander Holtz  15:06 to knot the game, 1-1, the goal came after a turnover committed by T/J/ Oshie.

McMichael collected his double at 4:17 of the middle frame. He had collected a loose puck in the New Jersey zone, and abused the Devils defense before scoring for a 2-1 lad headed to the third period.

New Jersey dropped to 28-23-4 off their second loss in three games.

In the third period, Dylan Strome knocked in his own rebound at 4:10 for a 3-1 lead to the Caps.

Ovechkin hit for his first of the night at 8:44 off a wrist shot for a 4-12 advantage.

Michael Sgarbossa ballooned the lead 5-1 at 12:27.

Erik Haula scored a so what goal at 15:34 to cut the deficit to 5-2 for New Jersey.

Ovechkin hit off a power play with 33 seconds left on the regulation clock to collect his double, and the 6-2 final count on the scoreboard.

Nico Daws made 19 saves in the loss.
