Well, if no one else in the chase is going to win, it might as well be the Vancouver Canucks.
On Thursday, in Glendale, the Canucks’ Bo Horvat hit for a double in the middle frame to lead them to a 5-1 win over the Coyotes.
The two goals came 38 seconds apart..
Alex Chiasson also struck for a pair of markers in the win.
“We probably weren’t as sharp as we were last night but playing back to back we obviously got off to a good start,” Chiasson said. “We’ve got to find ways to get points at this time of the year, and we got some solid goaltending and found a way to get two points.”
Vancouver improved to 34-28-10.
“Bruce (Boudreau) sent me out there for the last one at the end (with 36 seconds remaining) and I didn’t want to ruin it,” Horvat said. “I figured I was close to perfect and I’m happy I won that last one. It feels so cool to get that.”
Jaroslav Halak made 28 saves in the Canucks win.
“I’m getting good bounces, I’m playing with confidence and definitely feel good with the puck,” Horvat said. “At the same time getting the wins are more important for sure.”
Nick Schmaltz was the lone striker for the Coyotes.
“We had too many breakdowns. We didn’t give up a lot, but what we gave up was quality,” Coyotes coach Andre Tourigny said. “I thought we did a lot of good things. It’s the score that’s frustrating.”
Arizona dropped to 22-44-5.
Elias Pettersson added a single marker for the Canucks.
Harri Sateri made 27 saves in the Arizona loss.
