In Vancouver, the Canucks doubled-up the visiting Dallas Stars on Sunday night, 6-3.
J.T. Miller struck twice on the power-play for the Canucks.
“We weren’t really having fun on the power play anymore,” Miller said. “We didn’t want to be stagnant and robotic. We had to start throwing something in there. We decided to throw a little bit more movement in today. Tonight, we looked like an elite power play, but we just can’t do it one time and feel good. We have to come out with the same urgency the next game.”
Thatcher Demko made 25 saves in the Vancouver win.
Luke Glendening, Ryan Suter and Joe Pavelski (power pla) were the Dallas strikers.
“We’re not even close to being the Dallas Stars we need to be. We try to play run and gun, that’s what it looks like,” Dallas head coach Rick Bowness said. “Just have to get their attention and get them buying in and if they don’t buy in, they shouldn’t play.”
Vancouver improved to 5-6-1.
Bo Horvat and Elias Pettersson each had a goal and three points in the win for Vancouver.
“We had a good talk this morning. Everybody has to be a shooter, simplify,” Pettersson said. “We have to continue to have that mentality, to snap it around, move it quick, change positions, be shooters.”
Brock Boeser added an empty-net goal for the 6-3 final.
Dallas dropped to 4-5-2.
“The guys did a great job on the 5-on-3, and we’ve got everything going our way and then we turn the puck over at the blue line and all of a sudden it’s 4-2,” Bowness said. “We’re beating ourselves.”
Anton Khudobin made 30 saves in the Stars loss.
“We’ve got to win a 1-0 game, a 2-1 game. We need that mentality,” Pavelski said. “We can be a little bit more patient at times. There’s nights where it seems like you’re trying to do too much, probably, and we’ve got to really settle back into our team game and work out of this together.”
