Canucks rally to defeat Maple Leafs in OT

In Vancouver, Loui Eriksson and Josh Leivo scored early in the third period to rally the Canucks to a 2-2 tie Toronto Maple Leafs.

The Canucks then finished the rally when Alexander Edler struck with 1:49 to go in extra time for a 3-2 win over the Leafs.

“That one feels good,” Canucks center Bo Horvat said. “The relentlessness and the character in this room that we battled back against a team like that, it’s not easy to do and I thought we played a heck of a 60 minutes tonight.”

The Maple Leafs were 32-0-1 when leading after two periods of play.

“Just little mistakes that we’ve got to fix,” the Maple Leafs’  Mitchell Marner said. “Going forward, we’re going to look at it and be better at it. We’ve been pretty good all year at holding those leads, so we can’t get frustrated about this one.”

The Canucks moved to 28-30-9.

Jacob Markstrom made 28 saves to get the win.

“We need to get back on the win train again and just feel good about ourselves and have something to build on,” Markstrom said. “It’s a good bounce back game.”

Toronto got both goals in the middle frame when Ron Hainsey and Morgan Rielly struck for goals just 34 seconds apart of each other.

“The second period was real good for us,” Hainsey said. “Obviously, letting the lead slip away was not what we were looking for.”

Frederik Andersen made 28 saves in the loss.

“Fred’s a good goalie and we want to tip our caps to him,” Leivo said of Andersen. “But we just wanted to keep getting pucks towards the net, getting in front of his eyes.”
