Canucks rally past Islanders for 6-5 win Former Isles forward Beauvillier scores winner

In Elmont, the Islanders’ trade with the Vancouver Canucks came back to bite them squarely on their breezers Thursday.

Former Islanders’ Anthony Beauvillier scored in the third period to give the Canucks a 6-4 lead in the game.

“I can finally turn the page for good now,” Beauvillier said. “That’s going to be great.”

The power play goal came with 3:04 left in the game

“I was trying to breathe and soak it all in,” Beauvillier said. “I was trying to breathe. It took me a couple minutes. There were a couple times I forgot which bench I was going to.”

Elias Pettersson started the third period off with a pair of goals for the Canucks.

“We were doing [well],” Petersson said. “Our pace was there. I think everyone felt we [had] jump, that we [could] get some goals today. It felt good to win.”

Collin Delia made 24 saves in the Canucks win.

Vancouver improved to 21-27-4.

The Isles’ Kyle Palmieri gave New York a 1-0 lead just past the midway point of the first period, but Oliver Ekman-Larsson tied it 38 seconds later, 1-1.

At 12:30 of the period, Brock Boeser  gave the Canucks a 2-1 lead; New York’s Brock Nelson  promptly tied it, 2-2, headed to the second period.

“I don’t think anybody would say we played our best to that point,” Nelson said. “Being up 4-2, you’d [like] to think we could close it out at home against a team [playing] a back to back. But for whatever reason, [we made] too many mistakes.”

The Isles dropped to 27-23-5.

Mathew Barzal and Bo Horvat scored for the Islanders in the middle frame to give them a 4-2 lead.

“I saw a lot of mistakes being made,” Islanders coach Lane Lambert said. “A lot of individual turnovers. Twenty-three giveaways, you’re not going to win a hockey game doing that. There were plays to be made, [but] we didn’t make them.”

Nils Aman got one back for Vancouver, 4-3, headed to the third period.

The Isles’ Noah Dobson scored off the power play with 49 seconds left in the game for the 6-5 final.

Ilya Sorokin made 28 saves in the Isles loss.
